Recruit progress gone? Topic

I am recruiting a player and had generated enough interest to offer a scholarship and do a home visit. Then after notifying him of a red shirt I lost all progress. The promise start and promise minute bars were reset to 0, and haven't filled since despite further attention points (and rescinding the redshirt). I am the only team currently recruiting him, but I no longer appear on his 'Considering' list. Is this normal? Have I lost any chance at recruiting this guy?
thanks

pretty much. I've never had luck with recruiting someone after they got mad about being informed of a redshirt.

Think about it. If you inform him of the redshirt, how does he get the minutes and starts? I'm pretty new at this, also. But from I've read in the forums, it's probably not a good idea to inform a player of your plans to redshirt during recruiting. And if you do think you might want to redshirt him, don't promise minutes or starts.

Ah, too bad. Even if I remain his only option he is likely not to commit?

And I took away the red shirt right away, but it hasnt made a difference. I thought since he had no playing time preference it was safe to inform him.

Lesson learned, thanks for the responses.

I was able to successfully recruit a guy in a similar situation. I had an open scholarship offer to him (he did not reject it after the inform of redshirt). But I did have to build back up the ability to get HV, etc. I had never promised minutes... in the end it was just like starting over, after I removed the "inform of redshirt".

So, I think you can get the player. This was a D3 school, a D2 Juco by the way. I did do 330 AP + 2 HV before informing him of redshirt, and he also did not have a preference for minutes (and he had no other offers). Looks like I used 110 AP after the withdrawing the inform of redshirt and was able to land him. Redshirting Jucos used to be a lot easier.... and a really nice way to land a great player.

I generally only use the “inform of redshirt“ option on players I will not take on my team unless they redshirt. If my intention is to just try to redshirt, and then if they get upset and lose some WE just remove it, there is no point in risking this situation, IMO. It might be possible for you to do enough to get him interested again, but I’ve heard enough from folks who sank lots of AP into recruits in your situation, with no success, to not recommend it.

On the other hand, some recruits don’t seem to mind. I recruited a guy with a wants to play preference in the first session, promised him some playing time, but eventually secured a better international recruit for the late session. So I both informed of a redshirt and removed the scholarship before the start of the late session, so he didn’t sign with me; but I kept an eye on him to see what would happen. Surprisingly, I remained at Very High consideration (I had spent a campus visit to knock a sim off in the first session, so there was some effort left) until some humans noticed he was still sitting there after a number of cycles. Had I wanted to, I could have cut a player and signed him (and redshirted him) after my other player signed. It certainly isn’t a one-size-fits-all.

Before I knew that you risked losing it all I’d often promise the redshirt. Got burned once and sadly learned that best way to do the redshirt is just wait till you sign them and then give them the redshirt.

I’ve (luckily) had freshmen take the redshirt 100% of the time but I’ll never promise it to a recruit again, personally.

Not all freshman will take a RS, but many will

think of the inform of RS as a big negative effort - you need to offset that with big effort.

You should be able to repromise the minutes - promise them again if you are willing to promise them

but depending on the kid - they seem to react differently - he may just be beyond recovery

broad concept - in my experience if the kid is a reach for you in recruiting he is less likely to be okay with the RS, if he is kinda low for you, thrilled by your offer, more like to take the RS
