One of the first things I do after roll-over is check to see if my fielding instructor will resign. I was happy to see that my 90+ glove coach would and set my budget accordingly. However, I made the mistake of actually not resigning him. Having mistakenly thought i secured my guy, I ended up with a coach in the 50's. All dumb mistakes. My question is this. My defensive prospects are understandably struggling to put on defensive metrics this year. If I correct this next year, can I get back some of the glove that I left on the table or is that essentially lost? Any one have any ideas?

My experience is, "some of it, for some of the prospects." For your younger prospects in their second or fewer full pro year, you'll get 2-3-ish points back next season on top of the expected development. For prospects in their third pro season, the 2-4 points you didn't get this season are probably gone.

Yes. I have made this same error. Also, when you trade for a young player that came from a team that had a poor fielding instructor, you can see this as well You won't get all of it back, but you will see on the younger guys that their ratings will jump by two points every other cycle as opposed to one point. On the guys that at or past 3years pro, you will still see minimal gains.

Appreciate the feedback. I like developing the comp pick/2nd round SS/CF that have value as defensive back ups/pinch running type guys but the margin for error is so small for alot of them. 85 glove is just out of reach alot of the times.

I’ve noticed that too. But you can get a lot of them late and when it hits, it’s a nice piece.

for me if I a guy can come off the bench and be a gold glove SS, CF or 2B and can pinch run, I always have a roster spot for em.

(another hint I’m not sure I want to share: you can get potential guys to fill this role off of IFA for usually about a million)

for 550k, he makes a nice 25th guy until his Arb runs out and he isn’t even the best one I picked up off of IFA. The best part is this was with about 2-4 million in IFA scouting.
