I promised a player 20 minutes. He got 20 minutes on average for about 22 games and then OUT OF NOWHERE got a 1.9 semester GPA for the final semester and is now ineligible for the rest of the season. Am i going to lose him for good now? Is he going to transfer away?

If he never complained and if his total minutes are 440 (22x20) you probably are okay because 440 is 84% of 520 mins which is what you promised. Most players will be okay with 84%

What were his grades at the midterms?

He has 438 minutes...... ****. And hes mentioned his minutes twice but hasnt lost any WE. His midterms were a 2.3 with a 2.8 cumulative.

On the other hand, you should be fine. Was the second email a positive one? I'm sure the 1st one was negative.

And no the second email was about him threatening to tell his uncle Ronny — which is an actual threat :0

If a player complains and you don’t get the all clear email, you are at risk of losing them.

And losing a player’s eligibility is never “out of nowhere.”

1 email from a recruit is always followed up with a second. It will either be positive or negative.

If the email is positive you are in the clear (until you receive another negative email of course)

If the follow-up email is negative you can still lose them even if you end up satisfying the minutes requirement.

I think there is a risk that he leaves - given two negative messages from the player. Maybe the minutes will be enough to keep him, but hard to say.

Did his minutes in each game go up in games later in the season - until he lost eligibility? if later games were higher, that helps

grades - 2.3 after 2.8 cumulative suggests a downward trend in grades. At 2.3 and going down, I would have pumped in a lot of study hall. The 2.3 and the decline are both warning signals to add study hall

Thanks Mets. And yes, his minutes started going up after the 2 emails. I even started him once he started emailing me. Ive accepted that I might lose him and am doing my beat to find the silver lining if that happens (extra scholarship)
