If I can afford it, I put the '53 Ted Williams on every team. Those 100 ABs usually contribute 12 Hrs and at least 8-9 Wins.

I like 1960 Maury Wills. He's a cheap shortstop options with A- range ($3.9 million). I've used him 3 times in different ballparks, and he's hit over .300 with 50+ steals each time. He's been especially awesome on my recent team at Hilltop (.375/.406/.435).
