So how do options work? I have a guy with a mutual option for this season that it says is "pending" We are in budget distro so I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do with this guy ....he makes 5.9 million and it says I can buy him out for 1.4 mil

Once you are finalized you can accept the option for the specified amount or decline the option and pay 25% of the contract value. Or there is a possibility they decline the option and you won’t have to pay.

Right now your current player payroll is assuming that the player does resign for full salary. I can’t remember when they decide to accept or decline the option but you won’t be given any notification.

If you don’t want the player on your team for the upcoming season you can pay their buyout and they become a free agent.

note: no matter how good of a player they are you will not get a compensation pick if they sign elsewhere after you buy them out.
