So I redshirted a Sr, and he is ******, 1 WE now! Did I screw up? I was planning to give freshman and sophmore more playing time anyways, and figured this would align better with my long term plans.

You should be able to withdraw the redshirt and his WE will be restored. Up to you on whether his WE is valuable to you or not depending on how much room he still has to grow.

If you want to redshirt a senior and he still has some room to grow, the best way to go about it is:

1. Completely remove him from the depth chart.
2. Set his fatigue/target minutes to "Mop-up"
3. Make sure that you don't redshirt another player.
4. At the end of the season (sometime during the postseason tournaments) apply the redshirt to the senior.

If you redshirt a senior at the beginning of the season his WE will usually drop to 1 and you won't get any more growth out of him. But by not redshirting him until the end of the season, you keep his WE high enough to still improve. However, you have to make sure he doesn't play in any games or he will lose his redshirt eligibility.

Edit: Changed "Rest" to "Mop-up"

seems like they've put an end to this, I get this error msg when I try and set his minutes

Only injured players can be rested.

You might have to set it to mop up and not rest. As long as he's set to mop up and is not listed on the depth chart anywhere you should be good.

Exactly what Slam said. I did this recently in Knight.

Just leave him off the depth chart, you don’t have to worry about his fatigue setting at all, it can stay at fairly fresh. He won’t play.

I just redshirted a Sr. He said “I understand. Good choice, Coach.”

Wait, what?

Maybe his girlfriend is a Junior.

I did this recently in Knight too. Use mop up instead of rest.

Nothing will ever beat mattstarks redshirting a JR on the big board with no WE drop, but this is pretty wild.

Yes I have a redshirt on a Sr on my Missouri team in Crum that didn't lose any WE. Kinda ridiculous really. He's not on the big board. But he's damn good for us.

Every now and then there's times where players take a random redshirt. The few times I actually look to redshirt, I always start with my best players first. "Just in case" they would accept it, and when that happens, I then evaluate the situation and see if I want to stick with it, or go ahead and redshirt a fresh or Soph instead. I do feel like Jrs are the hardest to redshirt with no WE drop. But I've done it a handful of times

I redshirted a senior a couple of seasons ago myself with no WE drop. Thought I was seeing things.

Still boggles my mind that he accepted it with no problem. By the way, he was on the big board as a RS JR and RS SR, but did not get drafted. I'd imagine he's plotting some sort of revenge
