Can someone explain to me the senior RS?
You can redshirt any senior you want and they drop to 1 WE in most cases. But they ALWAYS return.
So you can look at your roster after roll over, if you think you have a better chance to win next season, just redshirt him and he'll end up with your Jr class.
Doesn't sound like much. But with Srs, they're already maxed for the most part. So dropping to 1 WE doesn't hurt much. You just end up with a better player with better IQs in your class the following season. It's good to do when you have a 1 or 2 man class. It's good to do when you just feel like your current Srs can't win out but "my Jr class would be awesome with him in it!"
But the kinks about it.... 1) as I mentioned above, what kinda player starts for 3 seasons, or becomes a big part of a team over the course of his career, and just sits out a year (Sr year) for no reason? It's just kinda weird. And they NEVER transfer or anything when you do it. 2) unlike freshman, dropping to 1 WE with a Sr doesn't hurt anything at all. If a freshman drops to 1 WE you're going to remove it. As it will ruin the player. But Srs are maxed or close to it. 3) this is the biggest overlooked thing about Sr redshirt..... if I have a 2 man class going in, redshirting the Sr makes it a 1 man class..... but you still get 60 AP instead of 40 for recruiting. And you get money for two openings instead of one. Very big recruiting boost. 4) and I'm just learning this one at D1, it gives you "options" other teams don't have. Let's use the same scenario..... "2 openings becomes 1 opening with bonus recruiting resources". You can aim for an early signer and a late signer. Let's say you sign the early guy (maybe for free), filling your ships. You can target a late signer, and when the NT comes, if you feel good about your chances with the late signer, you can pull the redshirt and then play that Sr in the NT and have help this season and maybe sign that late stud player when RS2 kicks off. Especially if you've been pumping 40 AP at that point in RS1 (instead of having 20 AP since your class is showing as "full")....... or vice versa...... with your extra recruiting dollars, you can aim a little higher for early guys and if you strike out it won't matter as much because you still have a returning player.
that #3 as far as the recruiting resources is HUGE. The #4 was just an example of how you can use it to your benefit in ways other teams can't.
