avant was a senior transfer, the seniors had to be on the roster prior to the season to count towards the total. otherwise you are correct about the 6 limit.
just to be clear, a junior transfer or a junior juco both would count towards the total, when graduating, but a senior transfer will not.
I didn’t realize this about senior transfers. I actually thought this one one of the advantages to signing them-to have more guys graduate to offset EE’s. I’m guessing I’m mixing this up with the old days where you’d sign a senior to preserve your carryover cash, when that was a thing.
Though, I’m confused when you say “must be on the roster prior to the season.” Not being nit-picky, but all players are on the roster before the season starts, no?
you are almost definitely right, that you are thinking about 1yr transfers being signed for carryover. i believe the senior transfers have not counted towards the 6 limit since they were created, but it might have been shortly after. the concern was folks would sign 1yr transfers purely for the 6 limit, as happened with the carryover, seble and folks discussing all seemed to agree this was a bad thing (that 1yr transfers should be signed for their ratings, not recruiting manipulation or whatever you call it - granted transfers in general are so rare it barely matters)
when i said “must be on the roster prior to the season” - i meant they have to be on the roster prior to the current season, as in, last season. new players (recruits and walkons) show up on the roster at the time the world rolls to the new season (i consider season start to be at roll time, when roster, schedule, big board, rankings, etc roll to the new season - not a couple days later when games start)
