Amateur draft SPvsRP? Topic

When it comes to amateur draft settings...how does the program decide which prospects are SP vs RP? Is it strictly stamina, and the cutoff is an arbitrary # like 50...any pitcher above is a starter, and any pitcher below is a reliever? Or is there a more complex formula?

I think you're right, and I think it's lower, like about 40 Stamina.

Yeah, low 40s. I've seen the system generate hall of fame type relief pitchers with 85+ durability and 42 stamina. I would try to use your best judgement on the tweeners -- if a guy has 45 durability and 52 stamina, there is a gray area and if that is the type of guy your targeting in the draft, you might want to just do 'any25' and setup your board manually because you wouldn't want the system to skip over your guy based on a definition technicality.

It's a great question though. Especially from a comp-pick perspective. Usually a starting pitcher needs to be in that 76+ - 79+ overall rating (depending on the fee agent class that year) to be A-type material. Whereas, a relief pitcher is somewhere in that 72+ - 75+ range to qualify for the type A. Knowing how the systemm defines one vs. the other can be crucial.

It seems like it might either include, or based mostly on, Durability. The low Durability ratings imply a start-and-rest pitcher versus a be-ready mindset of a RP. I've seen some pitchers in the 50 Stamina range have very different Durability ratings, thus defining a 4-5 inning SP versus a long reliever.
