I’m new to HD. Trying to figure some things out. I want to run a flex offense, but the team that I took over currently runs a fast break. Is it better for the future of my team to go ahead and run a fast break O this season and practice flex or will my players learn the flex O faster if they’re running it in-game?

Practice Flex but play FB until your players get to B- IQs in Flex. THis should happen midway through conference schedule.

Awesome, thanks!

Is there any in-game IQ development that comes with running a specific O or D?

I thought there was a very slight one. Didn't someone test it at some point and they had players go from F to D- just from using the offense or defense in games (without any practice minutes)?

Obviously this wouldn't be enough to warrant running an offense and/or defense with F IQ, but I do remember that from years ago.

Or maybe I'm just getting old and losing my mind.

Could be both.

close - guys do get up from F to D-, but its just from existing, not from playing a particular scheme. go look at the true upperclassmen on any team, they all have a d- or better in everything.

If you don’t have a team thinking about the national tournament this year, I would consider playing flex all season. It’s not about development, it’s about recruiting. You get a recruiting edge for a group of players who prefer flex, most of whom will come with some knowledge of it. For a rebuild, that’s a nice little boost.

For a good team though, definitely wait a season and play the set your team knows well before the switch.

Thanks, Shoe. That’s interesting. My team is brutal. I might as well run the Jackie Moon Rover.
