If I select a player with a Type A comp pick in the first round and he doesn’t sign/goes to college do I still get a Type D next season or is that only the case if it’s my pick?

(I’m not talking about the sandwich round but imagine someone picking 16 or later gave up their first rounder to sign a FA of mine so I picked up pick #30 as a comp pick).

Yes, you will still get a type D next season, I believe at pick #31.

Yeah, that should be correct, I was #30 this year, so it should be one pick later than that next.

Thanks. I was a little worried that I made a bad choice ordering my list where a couple of risky signings were likely to hit at #30.

Type D compensation pick? If you don't sign your true first round pick, second round pick, or third round pick you will be awarded with a Type D pick the following season.

In order to receive the compensation pick you must offer the player 100% of his initial demands, he must refuse to sign, and you must never withdraw your offer to the draft pick at any time. If the player counters and you wish to make a new offer you can do so but the new offer must be 100% of his new demands and it must also not be withdrawn. Essentially your last offer must have been at least 100% of his demands at the time the offer was made and never withdrawn.

If those conditions are met then you will receive a compensation pick in next seasons draft in the same slot that you picked the previous season plus one depending on any other shifting from franchises that were awarded Type D compensation picks before you. This holds true for the first and second round. For third round compensation picks you will receive a pick in a supplemental round at the end of the third round in the following seasons draft.

Compensation round picks for Type A and Type B FAs DO NOT qualify for Type D compensation picks.

"Compensation round picks for Type A and Type B FAs DO NOT qualify for Type D compensation picks."

I think that only applies to the compensation round 1*. But I could be wrong.

Then go to the first sentence, "true first round pick, second round pick, third round pick".

I confirm that the non-supplemental pick you get from the type A is type d eligible. An exception to this is if the non-supplemental pick you got was a 4th round or later pick.

However, the supplemental pick is not type d eligible.

Wow, this thread has been a rollercoaster of emotions for me, guys.

The language is super-unclear but I'm feeling relatively confident I'll have a Type D next season. Thanks guys.

You will get a Type D pick next season if you offered the draft pick's initial demands and did not withdraw that offer, even after he rejected it.
