any advise for me? Been away too long Topic

Came back to this game afetr 6-7 years away. Thought I remembered how all the catagories impacted play.

In three seasons, the ML record went from .451 to .483 to .348 and now, in season 4 - .350.

so I am looking for just the basic guidence;

Pitching - is V/left / V/Right more more effective? or is it the pitches themselves. I know the other catagories have an impact as well, but I am just looking for advice on these two groups.

Batting - does the left right ratings have more impact? or is it contact/eye?

I know these are very generic questions, but I just need something to focus on.as what I believed to be a better team now than I started with - it has gotten worse. And quite frankly, I'd hate to be booted from a league becasue my stupidity is confused for tanking.

any advice you can give would be helpful, thanks.

For pitching VsR is the first thing I focus on. Then the first 2 pitches for each pitcher. pitches 3-5 and VsL are secondary. Control you can play around with a bit. If the other ratings are good you can go as low as 60-55 but you will give up a lot of walks. It depends on your play style and park (defensive parks you want higher control. Less free passes).

Hitting I find a lot trickier. Again, I'll usually use VsR as my most important stat I go off of. Then you really have to play around. Low contact / eye will mean more strikeouts. Higher eye will mean more walks. I find for a 'good' batter you want 2 of the 3 of Contact, eye and VsR to be high. VsL is a complimentary rating but, again, its not as big a deal to me. Contact I try to stay above 40, eye above 30. But again there are exceptions. If a player has lights out stats in all other categories I can allow contact or eye to go lower. Likewise, I have defensive SS on my team that couldn't hit the broad side of a barn but are perennial gold glovers and steal 30 bases. They make the cut every day for my team.

Good luck. If you need any more help feel free to sitemail me.

Edit: Mayckol Rosovelt is a prime example on your team. You wouldn't be able to pry that player out of my cold dead hands. He's exactly what I look for in a SS.

The first thing I can see that is easiest to address is your defense. You have 1 SS in Rosovelt and then a lot of other 'almost there' stuff. Wes Parrino can maybe play CF but not well. Brown and Miley are competent 2B but not much else. I would be looking for a backup for Rosovelt that is almost a carbon copy of him. Someone that can come off the bench, be a defensive stud and steal a base here or there (again, don't look at the bat because you won't find it). Then I would look for a true CF. One with higher then 85 range and higher then 85 glove, again if you can get one that runs and steals bases, bonus. Don't worry about the bat.

A lot more wins will come from different positioning as well. To me, Raymond Llanyos looks like your best pitcher but you have him in the mopup role. I would have him as a starter but with a short pitch count. Maybe 60 target with 80 max. If you have a good leftie you could tandem them. Same with Don Kondou. I know having 2 pitchers that can't throw more then 80 pitches a start is tough but you can work around it. Make a rotation of 6 and have 13 pitchers to help out but I'd want Kondou getting as many starts as possible.

Everything looks good it just needs some tweaks. A lot of players are almost there but are missing 1-2 big categories to really make them shine.

You will get a variety of answers to this. Here is what I look at vR/P1/Control....with a minimum in mind for vL. Every rating doesn't have to be perfect and a really high rating will make up sometime for a lower one.....90+ control and a high P1 could make splits in the low 50s work. Look at successful players in your league and compare your guys against them.

Hitting there are a lot more combinations of what might work. The way the ratings interact with each other are important.

Make sure you are doing everything you can to get prospects into your system. Draft/Int are both important and you should have couple good ones on the way given your recent record. You aren't in a position to be trading your good prospects for marginal ML players. You also shouldn't be signing any draft pick compensation FA either. There are plenty of FA with no comp that could help you at the end of FA period.
