Double Teams - Offense Topic

I am wondering what you all think about how to gameplan offensively when you know that the other team is going to double team one of your players?

For a guard? For a big?

The simple answer is that if you’re concerned about the effects of a double team, look for more balance in distribution.

The problem is that HD distribution is not always intelligent enough to allow this, and the doubleteam feature often plays too powerful, and negates things like having a high IQ distributor with excellent passing and balanced distribution in those situations. In those terms, probably the best way to think about the doubleteam from a gameplay perspective is the defense saying “I’m going to roll the dice and try to nerf your best player, or best couple players, and take my chances with the rest of your team”. And from that standpoint, there’s not really much in your hands you can do to counter, except have the team balance, and good luck, to withstand that gambit. I don’t love the way that plays, in fact I’ve sent tickets about it; but I don’t think it’s going anywhere.

What shoe said...lean into a more even distribution model. You don't need to nerf your best player to 0 but you probably don't want him getting a plurality of the distro over other players if you know he's getting doubled. Have him even with 2-3 other kids who the team might not expect you to lean into. If he's good enough (say 90+ SPD, 90+ PER, and 90+ STA at D3) he'll still put up numbers even though his efficiency will come down a bit...but by evening out the distro the 5-10 fewer points than his average he won't score will ideally be distributed across other players who are freed up by the constant double teams.

I’ve seen this debated. By lowering your player’s distribution who you expect to be double teamed, aren’t you doing exactly what your opponent wants you to do?
