Ratings impact based on position playing Topic

Have you experienced an impact to defensive ratings based upon the position played? For example, in Rookie/LoA a player projects as a SS but you have another SS so you play one of them at 2b. Will playing 2b impact that players defensive development?

I have not seen evidence of this. I develop lots of SS so I have no choice but to put them at CF, 2b or 3b. They seem to develop fine as long as they get in games.

At some point a hundred years ago some developer said it would. It doesn't.

Simple answer, I've developed about a dozen catchers in the minors by playing them in the outfield or at DH. One I recall didn't even catch a single game till he got to the majors.

No impact at all. I play stud positional prospects (including up the middle guys) as rest replacements at DH (so 1 or 2 at bats a game, no fielding time) in the minors during their development in order to reduce injury risk. No impact at all to their ratings.
