Rule 5 salary glitch Topic

Can anyone explain why I was able to draft a rule 5 guy with a $5m salary when my Max Salary for the Rule 5 was set at $327k?

His salary was listed at the $327k in the rule 5 list (can still see it) but all of a sudden I have a $5m salary on my team.

The player has a weird ownership chain, but it doesn't change the fact I shouldn't have been able to draft him at that salary in the first place.

Really effin up the ol' budget right now, including a pending trade.

He was released earlier so he should only cost you the minimum, regardless of what it says at the top of the player card. It should display correctly on the franchise budget page.

Looks like he was released two seasons ago but signed a new contract since. Maybe it's a bug related to sitting in DFA'd status? I'd submit a ticket.

Also, I make it a habit of using the player rank cutoff function as well. Since I don't rank players making over $500k, the system ignores everyone else outside of my top ~10 or however many players I ranked. (Or at least that's how it's supposed to work, but looks like max salary isn't full proof so who knows)

The bug is in my opinion related to his very strange contract history. He was signed to a $5M/yr x 4 yr contract in season 45, and then waived later in the season; my guess is that he was accidentally placed on irrevocable waivers rather than revocable waivers after the trade deadline, and the owner got stuck with no way to assign him. He was released by the AI after 10 real days on waivers. At this point, any team could have signed him for $327K, and somewhere in the code this fact had to be recorded.

However, no one did-- and his previous team re-signed him at the beginning of season 46. This should have reset his salary to the original contract, and it appears that in the "contract" part of the code it did that. But I'm guessing that the $327K is still being read by the Rule 5 code as the salary you have to pay him. It isn't, of course; the $5M is correct. But you set yourself not to draft that salary. The Rule 5 code is bugged.

Send a ticket. Assuming you got your settings correct, the Rule 5 claim should be revoked.

He appears at $5m on my budget page and the reason I noticed so quickly was because he put me way over budget in a pending trade.

I set my rank cutoff and included him on the group since he could have filled out the bottom of my roster at league min (he was listed at $327k on the draft board). I also had the salary cutoff at $327k.

This all sounds like it's related to his signing, release, and subsequent signing. It's appears as though he was re-signed at the same dollars as his original deal for a shorter length. Some weird bug related to how that second deal is handled by the system.

I put in a ticket and am working that route so tbd. I'll update once it's resolved.
