Does anyone have any experience redshirting sophomore players after fulfilling promised minutes (+/- starts) as freshmen?

Yep: promised this kid a start and 15 minutes then redshirted him sophomore year without a problem.

I think it is a crapshoot. Some take the redshirt and some don't

It can be done - helps if the guy looks like the weakest player - at least weakest at his position

I just did it at Duke after promising a freshman 15 minutes, he took the RS with no issues as a sophomore

I do it all the time. I always offer promises, so I end up redshirting more Sophs than I have Frosh. By a wide margin

Same. I think Sophs are less likely to accept, but I still pretty much try my sophs first every year. It also gives the player a chance to redshirt with a better work ethic, which is nice.

I just did this exact thing. His WE from 65 to 34 and I got a negative email, I can take the WE hit, but is there a chance he will transfer if I keep the redshirt on?
