Recruiting Question Topic

I'm a D3 coach with an offer out for a D1 guy. He is "Moderate" on me and another D3 school and "Low" on a D1 school who he has an offer from. His signing preference is "Early" and signings have not yet started in Period 1. Will this guy automatically sign the D1 offer since his preference is Early, or will I have a shot at him in Period 2?

As a D3 school reaching up to D1, the recruits interest is capped at moderate (even though the total amount of effort might be VH or High). If the D1 school puts in enough effort to get to High relative to you/other D3 school at any time prior to the final day of recruiting in RS2, then the recruit would sign immediately assuming its after his signing preference.

Yes, I understand that I’m capped at moderate at this point, but the recruit won’t sign with the D1 school in Period 1 as long as he remains low on them? Was worried that he would sign with them even at low interest just because he wanted to sign early.

Knock the sim to very low to guarantee he won't sign in period 1.

Thanks! Even more interesting is that the D1 school isn’t a sim.

If it's not a sim, that changes EVERYTHING man. If a D1 human is interested, they can bomb at any time. There's no reason for you to invest now. You can still apply AP if you think the D1 team doesn't really want him. That's the risks we take in this game. But I can tell you now, if the D1 wants him, he'll get him.

Reach out to someone that isn't in that world and currently recruiting, and discuss the situation somewhere other than the forums. So you can discuss specifics

The recruit will only sign if the D1 school is high or very high. However if the only schools on the list are D3 schools a scholarship offer for a D1 school will get them to high. I have had recruit battles I expected to win, end up losing, searched through leftover recruits, offered 60-80 AP that cycle, on the next cycle offered a scholarship and they signed with me over the multiple D2 or D3 schools. It sucks for the D2 or D3 schools but I have to look out for my team first.

Appreciate the feedback from everyone. The weird thing is that the D1 human has offered, but is still low. Maybe it's because the D1 has a C- prestige and I'm at A+? Or maybe because I match up really good with the recruit's preferences? Think I'll keep up the AP overnight and see where things shake out in the morning.

cant compare D1 and D3 prestige - different scales

The D1 school has likely made minimal effort - which would be just enough AP to unlock the schollie (not many) and the schollie if it shows "yes" they have offered.

Check out the D1 school's roster and recruiting results and try to understand his tactics. For example, is this a backup option for the D1 school? in that case, the D1 program might be happy letting things ride - but planning to hit the recruit with effort near the end of recruiting phase one or near the start of recruiting phase 2 if primary targets dont pan out.

Also check to see if the D1 school has any likely early departure candidates on the Big Board - that will affect his tactics.

understanding you competition and making good guesses can help you avoid wasting effort - or decide when to make your effort
