Injury impact on promises Topic

Hey guys I recruited a 4 star player and promised him a start and playing time! He got hit with a major injury early in the season and missed 6 games—even with that I started playing him again at only 90% health! I have just received a 2nd letter of complaint asking why I lied to him, and is threatening to leave the program! His WE has been downgraded for the 2nd time! Am I going to lose this guy for something I have no control over? I know I saw a thread about this awhile back but I can’t find it! Your thoughts/experience please!

you have to play him as soon as he is eligible to play, to keep your promise 100% on starts (which you probably don't need to keep the player, but still). a player is eligible at 60 or 70%, i forget which, but basically in the future you need to play the guy a lot earlier. i would continue to play him and try to hit the promise as much as you can, maybe he won't quit, especially if he was ineligible to play for 1 or more of those 6 games he sat... it sounds like more likely than not, he is gonna leave, however - sorry!

It’s 60%. For guys with promises, in the future, don’t even remove them from the depth chart. If they’re too hurt to play, they don’t play. Then when they’re eligible to come back in, they come in, and you don’t worry about missing any promises. Unless you play FB/press, you don’t really use the 4th place on the depth chart, or shouldn’t need to anyway, and there’s no functional risk of re-injury, despite what some emails might tell you. Injuries are so rare in the first place, it would basically have to be like lightning hitting the same place twice in my understanding.

This is great feedback guys! It sounds like I'm probably screwed! After the injury his health was @ 60%, and only improved in 5% increments after each game. I was afraid of playing him too soon after the injury (I do play FB/press), because the injury message stated that I risked reinjuring him if I brought him back too early! I wish I knew then what I know now! Thanks again!!

Seems like this is a bug that should be fixed. 60% and playing but still being penalized against the promises? Ridiculous and totally unrealistic.

IMO if a player is injured at all the games shouldn’t count towards the promise

The problem here is coach didn’t start playing him until he was at 90%, dude expected to be getting starts and minutes again once he was healthy enough to be on the court. This isn’t a bug, it’s an intended risk to weigh against the prospect of offering promises to players to increase your chances of landing them (the risk being when a player with promises goes down, you have to play him for an extended period of time at reduced effectiveness). The general injury risk is magnified for FB/press teams, injuries always hurt these teams more. But in terms of recruiting, the risk is balanced by the fact that promises in general are often easier for FB/press teams to keep (everyone has to play anyway). Lots of things to think about. If there was one thing that could be improved in the process specifically I think, I would recommend an email going to coaches when the player is ready to get back on the court, just because the 60% threshold is not published anywhere, that I know of, it just kind of relies on word of mouth, which is a silly way to potentially lose a player.
