Minimum to get from D2 to D1 Topic

Job applications opened in Rupp today, and although I'm planning to stick at D2 in that world I checked the D1 jobs board for kicks & giggles - but I'm kicking mad without the giggles (not really, just seemed like that would be fun to type).

Based on what I've read and conversations in sitemails & on Discord with some veteran guys, I expected to qualify for bottom-tier D1 jobs by now in Rupp.

I've only been at D2 for two season, and maybe the guys I was discussing D1 jobs with didn't realize how short a time I've been at D2 in Rupp or the two worlds I'm wanting to get to D1 in (just finished 3rd D2 season at Tark - but 2nd with current team after bailing on a dumpster fire D2 after one season - & in my 1st D2 season at Iba). I have A+ rep & A+ loyalty in Rupp, but A+ rep & B loyalty in Tark (3 teams in 4 seasons will do that to the loyalty, I guess).

So, what are the minimum resume requirements you have to hit at D2 to qualify for a bottom-tier D1 job?

My Rupp resume:
2 seasons at D2. First season: upset a powerhouse in my conference in both the reg. season & conf. tourney championship, went 24-6 overall & 15-1 in conf., lost in 1st rd of NT, 31 RPI. Second season: (scheduled a weak non-con since I had very little D2 recruiting experience and didn't expect to sign as good of a class as I did) 23-7 ovr & 12-4 in conf.; lost to the conf. powerhouse (who was ranked #1 almost the entire season) in the conf. tourney finals, and lost as a 13-seed in the NT first rd. 37 RPI.

I'm thinking the "not qualified" all the way down to the bottom of the D1 jobs board in Rupp means I should lower my expectations for how soon I can go D1 in Tark & Iba. The only exception would be if my E8 run and/or 3 D2 seasons in Tark put me over the top.

Before the update it took roughly 3 D2 NT appearances to get to D1. Who knows now but keep us posted.

Will do. Tark job applications open tomorrow, so I'll update with whether or not I'm qualified for any D1 jobs there with the 3 D2 seasons & only 1 NT appearance - but it was a good one with the E8 run.

I didn't realize "not qualified" actually means not qualified (misunderstood the forum posts about longshot jobs & thought people were saying you had a chance to get "not qualified" jobs) - and I applied for 4 not qualified jobs in Tark after the E8 run last season. I don't know if I was qualified for any lower-tier jobs. I applied for Michigan and Southern Cal, and then applied for the jobs left by the coaches who got the Michigan and Southern Cal jobs.

At one time bigham the "not qualified" showing was not correctly and some got in without really being qualified but they fixed the part that displays the qualified/not qualified correctly now

3 seasons in - a D3 championship game appearance, and two seasons at D2 with a 2nd round game and getting bounced in the first. 80 wins total. I’m qualified for mid majors and below (no Prestige above C+).

i've sort of heard it may not be fixed, i don't have great reason to think its not fixed, but i do wonder - anyone recently have issues with the qualified / not qualified? like getting a not qualified job, or getting rejected from a qualified job without it being taken by another coach?

It says I'm not qualified for any D1 jobs in Tark despite the elite 8 and 3 seasons at D2.

1 season at D3 - 20-11, 2nd rd of PIT

3 seasons at D2

1st was a dumpster fire that I bailed on after reading forum posts about not really being rewarded for rebuilds when it comes to D1 jobs... jumped to a ready-made D2 winner and...

2nd season in D2 (1st at Barry) went 26-6, 16-0 in conf., lost in conf. semis, and went to E8.

3rd at D2 (2nd at Barry) went 14-13 and didn't even make the PIT (went after two recruits agressively, lost both to D1s, and didn't recover - partly bc I thought I'd get a D1 job after that season and didn't care too much. #oof)

Overall 63-54 (.538)

I'm going to apply to 4 D1 jobs since if I can't go D1 I'd rather stick around for a couple players I've recruited & grown attached to lol (even if it might be better for me to jump to a better D2 team to make sure I make the NT - I also figure that would be a trade-off since I'll get a loyalty bump for staying at Barry for my 3rd season)

Just applied to four jobs, so we'll see how it goes. "Not qualified" for any of the four:

Charleston Southern; B- current; D baseline
Eastern Illinois; C current; D baseline
Furman; D- current; D baseline
Texas A&M, Corpus Christi; C- current; D baseline

(using oldwarrior's baseline prestige list)

Same rejection letter from all four schools. Makes me think one more NT appearance would have put me over the top...?

“Coach, Thank you for your interest in joining our program. Unfortunately, we are looking for a coach who has demonstrated the ability to infuse a consistent winning atmosphere.”

...and reinforces that it was a mistake for me to go from D3 to AR Tech. If I had found a ready-to-win team & gotten two NT appearances without the 3-24 season, then I think I would at least be more likely to qualify for D1 jobs at this point.

Yes, see my resume posted above. Cherry picked both teams only because I wanted to get to D1 quickly.
I was rejected by C+ Milwaukee but accepted by C Sacramento State.

My Tark experience drove my Iba decisions, and now I might've made a different mistake!

I finally made it to D1 in Tark. I didn't make the NT or the PIT in my 3rd season at Barry, so I assume my loyalty bumping up to A qualified me for bottom-tier D1 jobs (I went D3->D2->different D2, so starting out with 3 teams in 3 seasons obv. hurt my loyalty rating, and it took 3 seasons at Barry to get my loyalty back to A).

I assumed the NT seasons mean more than loyalty ("winning covers a multitude of sins!"), and bounced from my only D3 season in Iba (PIT 1st rd) to qualify for D2 to a ready-to-win D2 (NT 2nd round) and then jumped to a different ready-to-win D2 bc the first D2 was losing six seniors. Should be able to make the NT, but now assuming there's a good chance my loyalty rating might keep me from D1 until I at least spend 2 seasons in one spot.

Wanted to share that I did finally make it to D1 for those who have been following along!

My 6'3" wife played at Furman, so that's the team I picked in Tark.
