HD Firing Expectations - Coming November/December Topic

I'm definitely a huge proponent of firings but 10-12 each season does seem extreme. The biggest issue, which many have stated previously, is when a coach has prolonged success (even winning NC's) but has a 4-season dry spell and gets fired. That really doesn't make sense and seems like the biggest hurdle to figure out.

I'll add that there are so many of the coaches labeled as "safe" that barely kept their job by the skin of their beanbag.

I think a ton of how this will be received is in something I've heard almost nobody talk about-- what happens to the fired coach? How good of a job can he get? Is there a special hiring season for these people so that they can perhaps pick empty schools before others? Or am I going to get canned from Kansas (just saved my job this season, but would have been canned long ago by the proposed rules) and sent packing to D2 or a D-prestige mid-major?

My Kansas tenure is an almost perfect test of this, by the way. Took over a terrible team with no reasonable players and B- prestige but trending down, consistently got better for 5-6 seasons before making the postseason consistently ever since, but no real NT runs. There are lots of mitigating factors, including a suddenly-full Big 12 when they opened up D1 jobs a ton 2-3 seasons ago, but the main issue is that I've never recruited high D1 in 3.0 until now, and face(d) a learning curve there. At BYU I was just trying to be a good midmajor, not recruit all-stars... I'm definitely still figuring that out. I'm a mediocre coach though, and if you are in Naismith jonesing for the Jayhawks, I can see where you could be annoyed that I'm safe in the old times.

If you looked at the below resume and said I was in trouble after season 118/119, I'd think that was pretty harsh. But if I was teetering on the edge after 122/123, I'd be OK with it. By the new proposal, I wouldn't even have seen 118, and whoever took over then would have had a chance to get somewhere. That would be the kind of thing that would make me quit.
