The Unfortunate Randomness of Off-Days Topic

Am I right?

Can we get a WIS fix of the complete randomness of off-days? Can they be mixed evenly during the conference games every season, instead of sometimes being at the very end of the season back-to-back?

HATE THAT

Am I right?

Yes

I don’t believe it’s random. I think teams have a preset schedule (or schedules that they alternate between) so it might just be unfortunate that your school has that in their (or one of their) schedule. I’ve never ended a season with back to back byes BUT I typically stay at 1 school for an extended period of time so I might not have picked a school who has that in their preset schedule(s).

I've had it happen to me a couple times and I don't like it, either.

Yeah, nice luck upset, but I don't believe it's not random, it's one of the first things I look at with the start of a season...did I draw the ugly back-to-back end of season off days.

Who cares when your off days are

Why does this need fixing? Who cares. It impacts nothing.

Younger teams have their IQ grow more for those late games. That's one good thing that happens spreading them out. FR might be at B- in IQ by then with no games to use them in. In contrast teams without games around slot 15 get a free offday to improve IQ with less impact. Both of my offdays are always in two of the last four slots, it seems.

its *definitely* not random. there are only so many conference schedule formats, and teams like, cycle through them or something. it might be based on the order of teams in the conference, i don't know that all teams in a conference can get all the schedules, but i don't know they don't, either. i'm not sure exactly how it works, there's been some decent threads on the subject, but i just don't remember / know. anyway there are definitely only so many set patterns and the back to back offdays to end the season is a common one. i've certainly had it WAY more than random chance would suggest.

i personally like it - nice little break - a chance to stop ghost shipping and/or running a promise lineup for a day or two and think it through before things really count. but i think you are in the majority on not liking it.

near the bottom of my list for action items for the WIS team. More important to double check that the team colors are up to date. And that is unimportant

I agree it doesn't need fixed at all. But the reason for complaints is coaches being antsy (maybe having only 1 team also) and not wanting to take two days off.

Again, i think this topic is useless. And as others said, no need to fix this. If a coach wants more action, get another team. Complaining about days off means a coach has time on his hands. More teams!

It’s not nothing, but just barely.

Here's an idea... Scrap the 2 conference off-days and exhibition games. Use those 4 days to create pre-season exhibition tournaments for all teams. Each team is automatically entered into a group based on the past season's RPI. Teams 1-4 in a group, teams 5-8 in a group, etc. You play each team in your group (3 days) and then there is a championship game for the top 2 teams (4th day). All of this would be automatically scheduled for you so no extra effort required.

This would delay the start of the season a little bit, but you'd get to play more games, which is kinda fun. I agree that its not important though.

I think there are ten different sets of schedules. Some are very close to each other, but have a few teams being flipped.

Checking out Arizona; in Naismith (season 127), Wooden (127), Rupp (127), Knight (157) all have the identical schedule, ending with the double off day.
Smith (126) has the same Arizona schedule as Rupp (126) had. Which is the same as Tark (176) and Phelan (156)

It looks like it's determined by the # of the season in each World, with the last digit of the season determining the schedule you get.

Very odd thing to pick up on. But I'm impressed! I've noticed the scheduling similarities. But never connected them to season number by the digit
