I have sent several sitemails to active users on this site that have not been read for several days. I think a useful addition would be to have a notification e-mail sent to a users' personal e-mail when they have a sitemail message that has not been read yet.

This is already an option. Each user can toggle it on at "Update Account Member Information" from your personal Account Information page.

It's not set as Default ON because probably most of us don't want it on.

I did not know that. I would guess most people on this site don't know that is an option so even if they wanted it they don't know they can do it.

Yup, it's not hidden, but how many of us actually look at our Account Settings on ANYTHING we use online? I do, but I'm also the type who reads the instructions on everything.
