Coaches and Big League Invites Topic

Two questions:

There are more MLB bench coaches available than openings. If I don't get the guy I want, could I make three 11th hour offers to the best remaining (and albeit below average managers) for $600K or will all rather be unemployed than work for the minimum?

Next, I offered a big league invite. Once I accepted, I was forced to add him to my 40 man at $327K. Do I still have the option of cutting him, at no cost, at the end of spring training or did I screw up?

1) At the 11th hour, all coaches will accept offers of half or more of their demands. So for those demanding less than $1.2M, yes.
2) If you added him to your roster at $327K, you're on the hook for that much, unless you waive him and someone claims him.

when you offer a big league invite. it costs zero until you assign him. he can play the entire ST to show what he's got. at that time you can either sign him for the 327K or release him at no charge. if you assign him immediately , you're stuck

Also, to avoid this in the future, when someone asks for "invite only," offer a "minor league with invite" instead. He will accept and then you can assign him to the minors.

You can also just change it to a minor-league contract without the invite if you don't want him in spring training.

I don't think we mentioned, if a player's had enough Major League service time (I forget how much) and you sign him off a Spring Training Invite, you can ONLY assign him to the majors. So yep, if you plan on keeping him around after sign Minors w/Invite.
