The long-running Real Life Progressive League is looking for a replacement owner for the Chicago Cubs. The draft will start off the clock around game 120, and we have reached game 100. The Cubs have a number of solid hitters and excellent relievers, but need lots of SP innings and therefore need to rebuild. This team is free! They are currently in line to pick around number 9 in a 24 team league. This team has SP Roy Halladay, who is awesome in 2010 and 2011 (2010: 251 IP, 1.04/.245/2.45; 2011: 234 IP, 1.04/.239/2.35), and decent in 2012, so he is ripe to bring back a nice haul on the trade side. Those many excellent long-term relievers, and some big hitters, could also boost the future.
This progressive league is like most, except that any player who started his career in a season is available to be drafted that season in the first round. In other words, for this upcoming season's 2010 draft, some of the top picks are "prospects" who started their careers in 2010, but didn't have a legitimate WIS season. Chris Sale, Freddie Freeman and Aroldis Chapman are draftable in this league. A prospect (we keep a separate draft list to make it easy) joins any players you have on the DL/IR until he is WIS eligible. If you select a prospect in the first round, you can pick up your 25th player in the supplemental draft round, which occurs after the normal draft is finished. The rest is pretty standard, with 4 AAA that you select from the 2010 season, and a DH is used in the AL. We have been around for over 60 seasons, and the rules are very detailed to prevent tanking. Plus, there is a great group of owners in this 24 team league, with lots of friendly banter and plenty of trades.
