So I attempted to redshirt a kid in DIII as I knew he wasn't going to play due to a heavy upper class roster and he reacted badly, OK I get it, it happens. So the season plays out and he doesn't see the floor the entire season. I then tried to redshirt him again and he reacts the exact same way. Is this stupid or what? The season is over, he did not play, he cannot play. Am I missing something? Is he automatically redshirted since he did not play?

Is it stupid? Meh, not really. First reason being that the game isn’t overly complex and for good reason - having a fluid redshirting status would be too much right now. Second reason is you’re seeing this conversation from your perspective - imagine it from your players end…

This manipulative ****** then has the balls to come up to me and say “Well, looks like you WERENT good enough to play one minute this whole season. I’ll start putting in the paperwork for your redshirt”. I blew up on him again about his self-fulfilling prophecy and reneging on our agreement to play even a little bit for 30 games in a row. Is he stupid or what? The season is over, he did not care enough to play me 1 minute. Am I missing something? Should I look into transferring?

One could make the game work so that not playing for 10 or 20 or 26 games makes a kid more willing to redshirt. That isnt how it works.

This is simply a dude at a DIII school who would rather find a job after 4 years of college and start making money than waste another year at a podunk college. Not everyone wants to stay in school for 5 years.
