Just some polling here. How often or ever do you burn all 20 on a recruit?

Typically once, sometimes twice per season. Maybe three times if I have 5-6 open scholarships. Sometimes not at all though. It all depends on what my priorities are in this particular season, and what’s available.

At D1, all the time. At D3, almost never unless I've got 5 or more openings and no competition on 3 of them.

In D1, if I am completing against no one, the recruit gets 0 HVs. Against a SIM, a CV and a handful of HVs. Against a human, almost always 20. My assumption is the other coach has the cash for 20 HVs and a CV so If I don't like the recruit enough to give him that (or want to commit my resources elsewhere), I move on.

At high D1, EVERY player I prioritize as my top target and have to battle for, until I'm out of cash. I only want 10-ish players (unless running press). So if I have 6 openings, I'll have almost enough cash for 20 visits on 4 targets

Go big or go home.

at lower levels, I try to lineup my targets so that I CAN go 20 visits on some sort of elite recruit I can push for and try to improve my team. So that requires signing player(s) that I won't be spending on. So you really gotta watch things and plan accordingly.

I feel like if you're not spending 20 HV on at least one player every recruiting session, you're not trying to reach for the best talent. Always fight for better, somehow some way

some of the decision depends on the geographical location you're recruiting from.

In the eastern half of the country it's generally easy to get close to 80 home visits with 5 openings.

From Arizona, if I'm lucky to have a local guy to recruit, it's a stretch to get max visits for more than two guys.

It's interesting, right after I wrote that, I thought of you and a few other coaches. Recruiting internationals and far away locations is a little different. I'll still use 20 HV on a far from home preference player (that I have a "very good" for distance). But can't really do that with internationals
