I know the TTO approach doesn’t help, but do y’all think that the rising strikeout totals is due to the velocity spike we’ve seen in the past decade and the focus on spin rate?
It used to be a big deal that Billy Wagner threw 97, now everybody out the pen throws 97.
Kyle Schwarber, the exemplar of TTO, has been on fire since the sticky substance ban since fastballs at the top of the zone are no longer as effective.
I wouldn’t say it’s easier to strike guys out, I’d phrase it as it’s harder to hit pitches now.
I was watching a Foolish Baseball episode on YouTube the other day and it was from 1990, where they referred to Todd Stottlemyre as a "fireballer" because he regularly brings the heat at 90 mph. LOL
