So I'm maybe 4-5 seasons in on UMD in the Crum world. I've had a couple good years, but two bad seasons in a row have dropped me back to C prestige. I'm trying to figure out what I need to improve upon. I have been getting decent recruits, but I'm just not sure.

I guess I haven't recruited specifically to my offense and defense styles. Maybe that is the next step? I find a mix of work ethic and skills when I'm recruiting. I did make the NCAA d2 tourney one season but I'm just not getting over the hump.

Suggestions?

You have a handful of god awful recruits on that roster. I had to double check to see if they were walkons.

Your two PFs with 16 ATH are trash. You don't have any guards that can score. So without going into game planning, its a bad roster. Don't know if you are missing out on targets and settling for these players or if you just dont know that ratings to look for. But always take 1-2 walkons every season vs bad players if you lose your primary targets.

I think just focusing on elevating your overall ATH and DEF ratings will help. At D2, some of those ATH ratings are going to be pretty exploitable. I'd also see if you can land one or two guards with a bit better BH/Pass ratings. That will help your offensive efficiency. If you are having trouble finding these guys in the D1 recruit pool because of the increased competition, don't be scared to scout your local area for D2 recruits.

You have roughly 4 players on your team that an elite coach would even consider. Scarborough, Dunn, Arnold and Foster. The rest of them, I likely wouldn't have even glanced at during scouting.

The importance of ATH/DEF can't be stressed enough. You could build a team of just those two ratings, and with the D2 populations being low, you'd make the NT every season most likely. A few tips you want to focus on......
1) GET A MENTOR. Very iimportant to find a coach to chat with. For day to day questions you may have. You WILL have questions.
2) visually compare your roster to a roster of top teams and take note of the difference. In D2 your prestige is not as big of a factor as you may think it is. You can compete with A prestige D2 teams for players. As long as your preferences match up well.
3) you run triangle/M2M. Focus on aiming for 10 players on your roster, not 12. (If you want to redshirt a player, 11 is fine). But having 12 kinda hurts you in a way that you don't see, at times. You can sometimes get complaints for lack of minutes. And the biggest impact you're missing out on is that carrying 2 walk ons each year will give you an extra $4k in recruiting each and every season.
4) promises promises promises. Don't be afraid to offer and start freshman. Other coaches do it. And promises are powerful in recruiting. (I start probably 70% of all freshmen that I sign. You don't have to do that. But it's a powerful recruiting tool that helps you get the better players).
5) find out the scouting methods of others. I see you kinda have players from all over, which is fine. But I'm going to guess that you may not be scouting efficiently, and giving yourself the the best/most options to pick from

Hope this helps
