Recruit Battle -- Opponent Signs his last Schollie Topic

Suppose I am in a battle for a recruit, an even battle so far. The opponent has other schollies offered to several other players, and one of them signs, taking the last available scholarship from him. What happens now? Does the guy we're both recruiting realize there are no more schollies to be had from my opponent and sign with me? Does he keep his 'very high' status with the other coach until the end of recruiting, then sign with me? Or does he not sign at all if my opponent is ahead in recruiting, waiting for a schollie to be offered next season?

Thanks for the responses.

It depends on some variables. The other team could still cut a guy and sign the new recruit. In any case, he will stay at very high consideration listed with that team unless/until your effort credit accumulated with him reaches a point where the other team slips; depending on how much effort has been expended, this can happen with some recruits just by virtue of them no longer getting much attention from the other team, but that’s really only true for players who don’t get visits.

agree with shoe. one thing to add, the situation in terms of it being a battle, or if you were the only viable school, as far as i can tell, that has no impact on whether the guy signs or not. i think the way to think of it is, there is a cycle where the player is programmed to sign, if there is an eligible school. before this time, the player will not sign no matter what. after this time, the player will sign the first cycle there is an eligible signer.

so basically, like shoe said, the 0 ship team would stay very high. if the player hits the signing cycle, they'll immediately sign with you on a 100% basis (no roll). but if before that signing cycle hits, the other team opens a spot, or another team gets to high or very high, you'll be back to a roll.

This is correct. I recently was in a multi-way battle for a guy and was surprised to see one of the High teams was at 0%. When I checked, sure enough he had filled up his open scholarships (basically cutting bait on the guy when he realized his best odds in a 4-way battle were going to be pretty terrible).

Not necessarily cutting bait tho. He could've just had two offers out and the other signed first and it filled the ship. I do that pretty consistently, having more ships out than I do openings. It's ideal really, as long as we watch the signing preferences closely. It's nice to have a late signing backup, for when you lose that roll for an early signer

My D3 team last season ended up signing a recruit after getting knocked down to very low, with a D1 team with zero available scholarships at very high on the guy.
