This is one of the most discussed topics. There is a ton of information in the pinned threads. They unearthed everything years ago.

For Example in (VIII) MLB132674 AAA Open which has just started I received as AAA two pitchers :

1963 Joe Gibbon $3,191,798 with 148 IP/162 and 3.98 IP/Game ... There is no Performance History (!)
ERA# OAV# WHIP# ERC# BB/9#
3.56 .267 1.43 3.79 3.52

I have no use for this Pitcher and we can see that his being Rated Above Average is because he has 148 IP/162
or so it seems as he was not chosen for his legacy (!) ....

They are randomly generated. I've never been a fan of random AAA. You pick 'em, that's a whole different deal. I like those, occasionally put them into my theme leagues.

Merkle spent months agonizing over the identification alone...use it, is why he put in the work.

1994 Tom Urbani $1,690,959 with 115 IP/162 and 4.02 IP/Game ... There is no Performance History (!)

ERA# OAV# WHIP# ERC# BB/9#
4.94 .300 1.47 5.14 2.35

There again it is obvious to all that he was not chosen for his shining resplendence ....

Those of you who do not use just RHS and LHS could possibly put them as Long B or Mopup ...

I have had instances where I used Pitchers of this caliber As RHS and LHS and I will in this league just to see what happens

Little Sparky Alg usually seems to know to use them as a last resort or when leading by 23 ...

They are inning eaters, afford your other pitchers to rest, instead of being used in minimal leverage situations. They suck, but have purpose.

Specialist pitchers are almost always underused. The only way they aren't is if all RP are set as Specialists. My 2 cents.

I have had "Identifying AAA Players" by Merkle as a Browser Favorite for ages ...

and I have been using solely RHS and LHS for a long time ..... Someone (maybe you) told me about this a long time ago and not to mix --- although I will have a special Milacki or Northrop as a Closer if I have them

I am going to methodically in my spare time which i have none ---- to Manually Select (using a "dry run" method) ---- AAA players from Below to Way Above Average and Post here

So is it better to use "Manual draft" (MD) AAA or SIM generated (SG) random in an Open League is your quandary. I would say if you want MD in place of your 6/2 Above Average SG what you don't want is too much of a CAP increase.

The reason you went Above AVG is you wanted more useful players than Average gives, especially in the pitching area. The danger is with MD in say Below Average is a manager could draft say 4 OFs and save the cash for upgrades at another position. Say: Dave Harris 1932, Armando Rios 1999, Jeff Heath 1944, and Jose Cruz Jr. 2005. That's 722 PA of great hitting for RF. You can do even more with Average and Above Average. Forget WAA that's for 200 Mil or above leagues.

I love Open League concept with AAA. I love to tinker with my team, change line-ups that sort of thing. I much prefer that to the set it for Sparky and check in once and a while. The Set-it and Forget-it most folks seem to prefer. (That’s why I have so few seasons played compared to others from my era.) I play many different CAP level with 80 being the lowest I go.

I do like that fact you went to Above Average with the SG AAA. Plays more to me like the original WIS pre Themes and such. (Shout out to Schwarze for spearheading that concept.) But going to MD will change the game from an “Original Open League” as you call it. But I’m cool with that.

Actually I plan to stay with the SIM Generated Above Average Draft ... More like the Original in that the original was randomly generated AAA and also there us a better chance of getting a pitcher i can use ... But this post is about the subject of AAA and for my reference and someday I could make a manual draft league if people come forward

Hey Ribb, I originally posted my above as a copy and paste from word in "Times New Roman" font. It was not real clear. I just edited it into "Arial" and it's much easier to read. I would humbly ask you to do the same for old eyes guys.
