So I signed a guy with 20 WE and tried to redshirt him, thinking he'd take it since he's a SF and I have a junior and senior at SF already. He didn't like it (WE went to 5 IIRC). Well, seven games in and he still hasn't played. If I try to RS him again, will his WE go back up to 20 if I take it off? I'm wondering if he might see the writing on the wall since he hasn't touched the court in 7 games.

yes, his work ethic will go back up to 20 if you try again and then rescind it.

in the olden days, it was possible that on your second try, he might take it. however, this was exploited by people who would try it 8,000 times and so at some point, WIS put in a fix, and to keep it simple, the fix guaranteed that if the player was unhappy on the previous try, he would be at least as unhappy on this try. or at least, that is how i understand it. so it sort of took away a 'feature' in a way, but i think the 'feature' logic was very poor (in the sense it wasn't really looking at things like, well 10 games have elapsed, maybe there's a sliver of hope now?, or whatever).

but yeah, go ahead and give it a shot. you will definitely not do any lasting harm by trying it again and taking it off when it doesn't work.

if you want to do a public service, you could actually go put it on and take it off as many times as you can stomach, to make sure it actually worked like its supposed to!! and didn't have any strange side effects, like, slowly giving you free work ethic all the way up to 100 (which was a problem at one point!).

It does sound like they track how many times you offer the redshirt. I lost the email, but I took a redshirt off a player and then added the redshirt back again at end of season and got a nasty email from the player about how I couldn’t make up my mind. So it sounds like the WE drop gets worse each time you offer it. In my case it was a senior redshirt so I didn’t care, he was already maxed.
