Has there ever been a D2 or D3 team who has successfully signed a top 100 overall recruit or someone who was drafted? I’m guessing probably in D2 but very rarely or never in D3, I reference as I will occasionally see a D2 or D3 show interest in a top 100 recruit.

Bonus question. Is there such a thing as a D3 ineligible? I’ve played about 30 D3 seasons. I’ve signed a few ineligible players only to have each suddenly gain eligibility during the rollover. That’s never happened to my D1 team. The only D3 5th year seniors I have seen in player stats are ineligible signed by D3’s from a higher division. Unless my eyes are deceiving me, it seems like there is built in logic to prevent D3 ineligibles.

I'd say in D3 it's highly unlikely. Probably the only way to do it would be if a coach ran out of scholarships but offered to a player and no one else realized the recruit was going unrecruited and offered a scholarship to have him sign at the very end, but even then there are enough last minute D1 teams looking for a recruit that it probably wouldn't happen. Has it ever happened? I'm sure there is that rare instance in the 1200 or so seasons of HD

Someone in Hawaii (texasramger?) signed a 5 star recruit a few years back. I am almost positive he was drafted.

D2 players getting drafted used to happen reasonably often but that’s the only one I recall from since the last update. I could be wrong.

D2 guys sign 3/4 star recruits every now and then. It isn’t unheard of. There’s one on Chico St. in Tark. I know because I signed him:). I think he was the #27 center so out of the top 100.

Bonus Answer: All recruits are immediately eligible at D3. You’ll never get an ineligible freshman to start the season.

That's correct it was tex. UCLA led on a 5* from Hawaii alone. And tex was in D2 at a Hawaii school and just kept loading AP. And UCLA just thought he was a dead fish on the considering list.

There's been many players on D2 rosters over the years get drafted. I only know of one D2 pool player get drafted. But that's because it just happened recently. Naismith D2 N. Alabama player. PF I believe. He may not be the only one. Just the first I could think of. I believe a player on a D3 Texas Tyler team from the past got drafted as well.

This kid was #6 overall SG IIRC: https://www.whatifsports.com/hd/PlayerHistory/Ratings.aspx?&pid=4513078

He went D3. I don't recall seeing a D3 player get drafted but at least once I've seen a D3 player on the big board.

There have been a handful of D2 kids drafted in the past 40 seasons in Allen. But they are rare.

That's the drafted Texas Tyler kid that was drafted that I was referring to earlier. Iba

Fun fact - pretty sure neither uatte (Texas Tyler) nor texrangers25 (Hawaii Pacific) won a National Championship with those players.

The Hawaii team was really good. I thought he won one with him.

You’re right!

Hawaii went S16, S16, F4. The kids freshman year they were 31-1 and got upset in the S16. He left after his JR. Year.

I think uatte had a couple of F4's ... but no championship games.
