I guess I used to know this, but forgot it and where to find it:

When you assign a ML free agent to AAA after Spring Training starts, is he subject to a demotion penalty (just like if he was
on the ML roster and you demoted him), or can that be done without risk of ratings hit?

If you signed him before the 9th game, you're fine.

Thanks...yeah, I knew that if they stayed inactive for a certain period they'd get dinged.  Just couldn't remember if the act of assigning them to a lower level brought a penalty with it.

Could you explain this a bit more? If you signed him before the 9th spring training game or 9th regular season game? And why is that important? Can any demotion penalty be returned if you promote him? Finally, will you have a chance to respond to the player if he decides to become a FA because he has 5 years experience, or is he gone?
