Ok so if you do the campus visit now, you would get maximum credit for it, but this would not be visible to you until he is signable because you are being capped as appearing at moderate until you are able to sign. This cap affects your ability to sign the guy but not your ability to put/get recruiting credit on the guy.

However, I would really consider holding off on doing any campus visits until a player will be signable because your recruiting money is so small, so scarce, so valuable, at D3, that it would be tragic to (mis)use it on a player that ends up being taken by a D1/D2 school. The only exception would be to knock down sims and even then it's tricky and risky and probably unnecessary because there should be plenty of players that will improve your squad and not potentially be a waste of resources.
Yeah this last paragraph is really important. There are limited instances when early visits make sense as a D3 chasing D1 pool recruits, and discerning when those are takes a lot of experience. And we still get it wrong sometimes, when a D1 school gets beat out for top targets, runs out of cash but still needs another guy, and unexpectedly shows up late (I’ve been on both sides of this). Until you have 10+ seasons of recruiting under your belt, it’s generally best to wait with visits, and simply move on to other targets if you can’t knock a sim down to VL with more AP and promises.

The D2 players won't sign until the 5 pm processing or later. However, if you're going after any D1 players, a D3 school cannot sign D1 players until the last day of session 2.
Off by only a cycle; D3 schools can start signing D1 recruits at 11 PM on the next-to-last day.

do you get more money for recruiting when you cut someone?
Yea!

As long as that recruit wasn’t signed by you. If Simmy or a previous coach signed, you’ll get full additional resources when you rescind the scholarship: additional scouting $, and recruiting $, and AP.

One more clarification here - I understand that when you cut a player you signed you don't receive any additional scouting/recruiting money. Do you get any AP for that open scholarship?

nope. zero money or AP for cutting a player you signed. i believe you get full money and AP for cutting a player you didn't sign, and half money and AP (10/cycle) for a player who quits over missed promises.

Speaking or promises- what does promise start mean? That he’ll start once or every game?

Every game for his freshman season. Although you'll only need to fulfill 80% (21/26) games for him to be happy. Promises don't carry over to the postseason (conference or national tournaments).

In D2 and D1, if you make a promise to an ineligible player, you'll have to fulfill that promise in his first eligible season (the 2nd season he's on your roster).

If there’s an ineligible player, can you redshirt him to get 4 full years out of him?

He'll automatically get a 5th season (4 seasons of eligibility), although I believe he'll need to have a GPA over 3.0 or something like that.

its a 2.7, you have to have a 2.7 going into sr year, in d1 and d2, for the player to return for a 5th season (4th season of eligibility). and you can't do a redshirt on an ineligible - but like mlitney says, you get that 4th year sort of by default. you can lose the player with under 2.7 grades or to early entry, but if not, you'll get the 4 years.
