Hi All,

Another newb question, as I am now in my first recruiting period. I have the same number of scholarships as I have openings. Is that normal? Is every opening a scholarship possibility or should I be rationing scholarships for future seasons? (And if so, how do you anticipate how many scholarships you have/will have available?)

Thanks in advance as always!

Yes, that is normal. Your roster size will always be 12. You can anticipate scholarships available based on the number of seniors and walk-ons (which are SIM-assigned at the end of recruiting to get your roster size to 12 if you have any openings) on your roster.

ja_tbfl’s answers is totally right. to add a bit of detail and clarity, the scholarships regenerate every year, but you DONT NEED TO FILL THEM ALL

If you run sets like motion, flex, triangle, zone, or man you really only need to run a 9/10 guy rotation. So even if you’re redshirting or taking an ineligible, having a walk-on or two each year can be very efficient.

As to cub's point, I usually keep 10 scholarship guys each season and then try to sign one or two rising senior transfers to fill things out. If I can't find rising senior transfers, I'll just take walk-ons.

Finding a rising senior transfer who knows your offense and/or defense is like finding a $20 bill on the sidewalk. It's not going to change your life, but you're likely to want to pick it up quickly before someone else does.

Very true.
