When do ML salaries become guaranteed? Topic

As the title suggests, I'm wondering when ML salaries become guaranteed. Say, for example, that I have someone who will have 1-2 years of ML experience after rollover. At what point am I responsible for his $327k salary? If I cut him before rollover, he's not my problem, but is there a time after rollover but before the start of the season (e.g., before arb even if he's not eligible, spring training, regular season) that I can cut him and not be responsible for his salary? Thanks!

no, once you roll, you're on the hook

You can try to waive him. If someone claims, him, then they are responsible for his salary. If he clears, nothing bad really happens. But if you don't really want to keep him, anyway, it doesn't hurt to try.

I'm doubtful in the specific case I'm thinking of that that would work, but it's worth a shot! Thank you. (Essentially, if the player develops in the offseason sufficiently such that he has value, I'll keep him, but if he doesn't, I doubt anyone else would take him on waivers)
