Apologies if this is answered elsewhere (as I'm sure it is, but I cannot find it for the life of me!)

I believe that, somewhere deep in the pages and pages I have read to take up this game, I read that a redshirted freshman who is promised minutes and/or starts will simply expect those promises to be fulfilled the next year. Am I recalling correctly that I read that somewhere or am I dreaming?

If you try to redshirt a guy you’ve promised minutes to in his freshman season, he will most likely react very poorly, lose a ton of work ethic, threaten to transfer, and then (I think) most likely follow through on that threat after the season.

What you’re thinking of is that ineligible players will expect promises to be fulfilled the first year they become eligible.
