Total Overall Rating VS Player Roles Topic

I'd like to better understand using custom player roles. Specifically how it applies to the depth chart, not recruiting. For example, if I value defense over offense, I can create and customize player roles and assign higher numbers to those defensive categories to make sure those player are higher on my depth chart. By default, if I use the overall ratings and set my depth chart... players with better overall ratings would get the start but the ratings might be from higher offensive ratings or stamina, durability, work ethic etc.

Just looking for advise or suggestions on how people are using that feature and if they find it useful versus just using the default settings. Thanks!

I love player roles for depth chart purposes (I don’t pay attention to the numbers in recruiting.)

The best part about player roles, imo, is that when you move a player around on the depth chart, you will see the adjusted rating for each pre-set role you’ve saved. It’s a great way to compare/contrast player’s abilities to build a good team flow.

I keep tinkering with my own settings to create the optimal values at each position. Love it!

For me, it’s also a better way to size up opponents.

Can you share an example of your custom setting and why you have it set that way? What does the new overall number represent? Is it a mathematical formula?

Yeah, my PG formula for example is:

Ath 13, Spd 18, Reb 1, Def 14, Blk 1, Lp 5, Per 10, Bh 18, Pass 19, WE 0, Sta 3, Dur 0.

Like most things in this game, it’s ratios. The total comes to 102; passing is given 18.6% weight, defense 13.7%, etc.

My best current PG on my D1 team is rated 74.6. (For balance on that team, I actually start him at SG where he rates 72.4, and then he backs up my starting PG.)

My best current PG on my D2 roster rates 66.5. Then my D3 rebuild with all new young players… the best current PG rates 48.4.

When you use player roles to rate players, the system also rates teams with a total average rating (plugging each position into your pre-set formulas.)

In my stacked D3 Iba conference, at the beginning of the season, the five top teams are also in the top 25 of team ratings: 57.6, 54.8, 54, 53, & 52.7. Then there are three more teams that fall just outside of the top 25: 52.5, 52.3 & 52.2. I expect all 8 of these teams to make it into the NT.

I always make them add up to 100.. So it is a straight percentage per attribute.
