I like the ban on defensive shifts. It's disturbing aesthetically to see a third baseman loitering in shallow right field, while the left side of the infield looks like Podunk on a Saturday night.
I'm not a big fan of strategies that might help a team win a game that also happen to diminish my enjoyment as a spectator.
Take it up with the hitters then. An entire side of the field is open to them, but rather than try to hit the other way or bunt for a free base, they continue to swing out of their shoes and yank balls into the shift. Then whine and complain that it's not fair. How about making some adjustments? It's not the shift that kills enjoyment - it's the stubborn refusal of hitters to make any kind of adjustment. Hitters 20-30 years ago would've torn apart the shift - which is why you didn't see it commonly used back then.
To me, banning the shift is equivalent to banning breaking balls, because they're too hard for hitters to hit.
