Injury at End of Season, DL, Medical Topic

Asking for advice on putting someone on the DL at the end of the season. I am planning on putting my medical budget at 20 for next season. Should I wait to put the player on the DL until the budget changes next season? I ask because I have read threads about this topic and whether injury recovery will get better with changing medical budgets across seasons. Is it the time of injury or the time of placing on the dl that determines the influence of the medical budget on recovery? And in a related side note, does injury rating recovery not happen through medical unless they are on the dl? I don't need to put this player on the dl right now for space purposes, so that question is important. Clearly players recover from injury without being on the dl, but for the recovery of points, do they need the dl assignment?

Just a few points to clear up here.

1. The rollover = 110 days. So, you'll need to take the amount of days that the player is injured and subtract the amount of game cycles left in the season and the playoffs (full playoffs is about 40 game cycles) and the 110 days of rollover. If the player is on the DL at the end of the World Series, he has a chance to recover some ratings during the World rollover. If he is still injured next season, he can be placed on the DL again with the hope that he gets additional recovery bumps next season.

2. While injured players may, over a long period of time, gain back some of the ratings they lost due to the injury, if they are not placed on the DL during the injury, they do not recover from their injury during any cycles while they are injured. If they are placed on the DL, then they have a chance to recover during cycles when they are injured.

3. When a player is placed on the DL, he typically obtains an injury recovery cycle 1 day before he comes back from injury. However, if he is still injured for more than one day when your World reaches the second to the last day of the regular season, the player might receive his injury recovery bump, assuming he is on the DL, on the second to the last day of the season. With very rare exceptions, once the World is past the second to the last day of the season, there are no more injury recovery bumps for the rest of the season. The only injury recovery bumps after the second to the last day of the season are the ones that the player MIGHT get during rollover and the ones he gets the next season if he is still injured.

4. Injury recovery depends on the team's medical budget and the player's makeup rating. I almost always run a $20 million medical budget and there have been plenty of times where my player gets injured and he doesn't get any injury recovery bump because he has a terrible makeup rating.

Thanks for the great detailed response tlowster. So all of my five guys on the DL at the end of the season are something like 60 to 70 days remaining on the DL, so you are saying they will all be healthy when next season starts. I had wondered about whether that would happen, and whether it was important to get them off the dl when they are healthy, but I am remembering some people will leave players on longer to get the medical boost. I feel more confident now, and I got the guy that I was concerned about on the DL just in time for the last day injury recovery cycle. I hadn't noticed the previous injury recover bumps on the other four guys because I wasn't checking on them since they were out of my mind on the dl. So all the like 8 day injuries won't get injury recovery if you don't put them on the dl. That's a tough call then, and that's why people will leave on longer to wait for the injury recovery cycle to happen I suppose. I will have to rethink this going forward because I took a valuable guy off the dl when he got healthy after like a 20 day injury, but he never had a recovery cycle. Does that injury recovery cycle the day before getting off the DL happen with the 15 day one too?

Yes. Even with a 15 day injury, the player will get the recovery. As long as the medical budget is high and the player has a high makeup rating. The only ones it may or may not work with are the very minor ones (less than 10 days). If they're less than ten days, then it's hit or miss, but often times, injuries that are less than ten days have no ratings hit.
