pedrocerrano's two teams are facing last place teams, so his teams are definitely alive to go 2-0.

As predicted, pedrocerrano's two teams each won, and the two other 82-win teams (nocomm999, pmars2001) each lost game #161. Along with DarthDurron's 83-win team (which lost to glowguy and is 1 game behind the division lead), only two spots are available for five teams.

But the biggest drama is in League 2, where four divisions remain undecided and the NL East is sitting at this with a 3-way tie still possible:

I should be thrilled to get 10 (maybe 11) teams into round 5. In the round 4 draft, I had 10 picks in the first half of the drafts (i.e., picks 1 thru 12) and 5 picks in the latter half (picks 13-24). I will have 8 of the 10 "top-half" teams advancing, failing with 1913 (bad pick at #7) and 1982 (pick #10, they have .557 Exp Win%, best of any non-advancing team). Of my bottom half picks, I will get 2 or 3 team in with 1963 (pick #22, barely), 1996 (pick #14) and maybe 2014 (pick #24, needs to win games #162 and #163). So, basically, in aggregate, I shot par.

That being said, I can't imagine a worse overall finish by my teams (that mattered). I mean, bad streaks happen, but for all these teams to tank at the same time is maddening. Let's recap...

1951: Was sitting at 80-58 with a healthy lead for the division. Currently on a 7-16 stretch including 4-4 vs two teams combining for 200+ losses. Going into final series, with a 2 game lead over 1950... Just need to got 1-3 to clinch a tie. Currently getting swept and one more loss = no playoffs.

1954: Was sitting at 75-58. Currently on a 12-16 stretch including 2 losses to a 69-92 team. Needed to go 2-2 vs division rival 1957 to clinch division. Lost 2 of first 3 games and another loss = no playoffs.

1963: Granted that this team had zero expectations. So just advancing to round 5 is a bonus. But was in the playoff race in a weak division. Currently on a 4-10 run and now one game back of the division lead with one game to play. We went 1-7 vs the two worst teams in the division.

1969: This team was the third overall pick in the round 4 draft and they did not disappoint. Was ranked in the top 2-3 overall records all season, until just recently. pedrocerrano's 20-game winning streak to pass me up isn't even the worst thing that happened.. We decided to go 5-8 down the stretch, including losing 2 of 3 (so far) to the 106-loss *worst* team in the league. Now this team is out of the top 4 for round 5 drafting purposes.

1976: This team is making the playoffs, but a 1-6 stretch to end the season flipped my team and 1973 from division leader to wildcard. Why does that matter? The wildcard gets to play a 93-win team. The division winner gets to play an 84-win team that's been outscored for the year. Oh, wait - maybe that's a good thing.

1996: Their latest 3-7 run within the division means this team is at risk of being eliminated from the playoffs. The standings right now are 88*, 87, 87 wins. We have 88. Yes, we went 1-3 vs the last place team. See a theme here?

2014: This team doesn't deserve to make the playoffs, but they are in a bad division and had a lead until they decided to go 3-8 down the stretch, including 2-6 vs the two 90+ loss teams in the division. Now, they are a game behind with one to play. Due to a below-.500 record, missing the playoffs here means missing round 5. Then again, missing round 5 with what would certainly be the last pick of the draft probably means not having to deal with a 90+ loss team.

Anyway, like I said at the start of this rant... I am very happy to get 10 (out of 15) teams advancing to round 5. But a 35-71 cumulative record "down the stretch" for teams that are cumulatively way over .500 has changed my playoff teams from a realistic shot at 11 to as few as 6. It wouldn't have hurt so much if we could simply beat the really crappy 100+ loss teams.

OK - done ranting. Time to prep for the round 5 draft.

The rant helped. Most of the teams that needed to win, did win their last game. At least we get a couple of game #163's now.

FYI - I just noticed that in three of the four leagues, the #2 overall pick didn't advance to round 5. Meanwhile, in three of the four leagues, the 22nd selected team did advance to round.

That's got to be the fluke of all flukes.
