I don't know what it is about the GB/FB pitchers, I don't have any examples or data, but it 100% seems to me like GB pitchers just do better. If all ratings are the same, the guy with GB rating of 75 will have a much much better ERA than a GB rating of 25. I've had and seen pitchers with low GB ratings but great ratings of everything else never have a good season. I don't even think they give up more Homeruns, it just seems like their ERA is just never what it should be.

I have stayed really tried to stay away from any pitchers under 50, and the ones in the low 10's-20's are almost worthless.

I could be dead wrong, but that has always seemed to be my experience.

This guy doesn't even have high splits and pitches on a team that has a C type in RF and still has done very well despite a GB rating of below 20.

I would say those are very good individual pitches. The combination of decent splits, very good control, and very good individual pitches more than makes up for the low GB/FB rating. It's a case by case thing, but in general I try to avoid those low GB/FB pitchers.

Yeah I agree. He performs better than I would expect out of an 18 rating GB, but I would say he has solid splits and great pitches. I would love all my pitchers to have those pitches. But yeah he is a strange one.

I've been experimenting with Player Profile: R.J. Hernandez - Hardball Dynasty Baseball | WhatIfSports as my backup catcher.

In general it has been a success. So much so that I am not carrying a true backup C on my playoff roster with Player Profile: Steve Clevenger - Hardball Dynasty Baseball | WhatIfSports as my starter. The only problem is replacing Hernandez in the starting lineup where he also starts in LF VL. He has had a Rookie of the Year campaign. I'll likely use him as my primary backup next season as well and open a roster spot for a new player rather than rely on my old backups:
