Historically teams score one extra basket for each extra 5 assists. Clearly you guys are giving teams much more than that for assists, which is the biggest problem with the sim. The other big problems are in your rules which allow teams to have "clones."

In order to average a lot of assists a player has to have the ball a lot. There is only one ball, so it's not possible for more than one or two players on a team to have a lot of assists.

Unfortunately this has been a problem for years, and admin has still yet to fix it. When you see an owner use the term "State Farm", this is the type of team they're talking about ... a cheat code using massive assists to attain a completely unrealistic efg% that makes the team virtually unbeatable. Certain owners like jjmurphy, who should know better, continue to flood open leagues with this tripe and ruin the sim for newcomers. Best thing to do is avoid open leagues and join the anti-state farm leagues, where assists are capped and clones forbidden. Much better competition. Look for it in the theme league section run by 3dboxingblog. Hope to see you there.

I want to play in a league where only pone version of each player can be in the league. I don't want to see the all star game rosters with 7 LeBrons and 5 Stocktons. And you're right about Murphy, he's got the best team in the league I am in, they are like 56-2.

That would be a draft league. There are a few, the hardest being Savage. I'd recommend starting with Decade draft leagues, ODL, or maybe Old School, where you draft a franchise.

And yeah jjmurphy may have the best record in your league, but he rarely even makes the playoffs when he can't use a State Farm team. It's quite pathetic.

Why is it called a State Farm team?

I may be wrong, but I think there was a State Farm commercial with the tag "how can I assist you?" Not sure which owner came up with it (Ash?), but it stuck. Anyway it's a massive glitch that's LONG overdue to be fixed.

ash came up with the tagline. There's an update scheduled for June sometime where they are supposedly fixing the assist bonuses. Hopefully using robusk's formula, but that hasn't been confirmed.

Thanks for the update Ben.

What is robusk's formula?

Because if you look at teams historically, every 5 assists a team has will add one extra basket. So on average a team with 3000 assists will have 20 more baskets than a team with 2900 assists. And adding more and more assists is overkill, as there is only one ball. Same thing with having too much rebounding. And having too few shots should be penalized too. If your team has all high percentage shooters who don't shoot that often, that should not work either. Teams then should have to take "forced shots," where their FG% would drop about 20 poimts.

That’s already how shooting works. Rob’s formula uses regression analysis to calculate for diminishing returns on shooting based on assist percentage. It would do the trick.
