I recently took over a new team, we're in the Late Recruiting period right now after jobs (Knight) and find myself with a bunch of crappy players who need to be cut. I've added 4 nominal players in R2 and don't really want to go beyond that because I'm betting that I'll be able to get better guys in R1 next season. So there are more guys who I plan to cut, but I don't really need to at this moment.

But to get the APs and $$$ for previous SIM-signed players who I intend to cut, do I need to cut them now or will I have an opportunity before R1 begins to rescind scholarships?

Click on Schedule > World Schedule. Toward the bottom you will see "Player Rescind Scholarship Start" and two days later "Player Rescind Scholarship End." That's it.

Cut 3 of them before the end of RS2. You won't get an option to cut them before or during RS1 of the next season so you'll miss out on those resources. You can only have 3 walk-ons per season so it doesn't make a ton of sense to cut more than 3. The game will just sign some additional garbage players until you have at least 9 scholarships. Although I have seen more than 3 walk-ons on a team before, but I'm not sure why that happens. Maybe someone can chime in with the answer.

Mlitney - If I changed jobs and want to cut someone, do I get the additional resources that come from cutting a player that I didn't sign, even if I wait until next season to cut him?

At the end of Recruiting Period 2, so if I cut him now, the resources won't be valuable, but I will have an extra open scholarship for next year. If I keep him, he can serve as my 12th man in an FCP and I can then cut him to presumably get the additional resources for R2, but don't know if I'll actually get them.

Yeah DrewMit, you get the resources whenever you cut a player that you didn't sign, whether it's right away or the next season. The moment you cut them, you get the resources.

In your example, if you cut him right now, you'll get the walk-on (open scholarship) and resources available for RS1 of next season. If you want until RS2 of next season to cut him, you'll still get those resources at that point.

If you think you'll be competitive next season, it might be worth holding onto him as a 12th player, but I would think the additional resources for RS1 would be more valuable (i.e. cut him right now and take a walk-on). If you're not running fastbreak offense, you can use the slow-down and should be still be okay with 11 players for next season.
