This is so rare that I don't remember dealing with it before. I have a guy who got injured and went down to 56 health. Rested a game and now he's at 62. When should I allow him to play again? Should I limit his minutes as he recovers?

If it’s a freshman and you’ve made promises, they’ll expect to play as soon as they’re healthy enough, which is 60%. Otherwise, I generally take their rating adjusted by their health level, and if they’re better than their backup, I’ll put them back in. You don’t have to worry about re-injury, despite what the email says, but when they’re down at 60-70% and I don’t need to start them for promises, I’m usually in a situation where it’s best for the team if they’re at 2nd-3rd string.

good advice from shoe. perhaps a bit conservative on the estimate for how much the health affects performance - meaning erring on the side of it mattering more than it does. that's generally how one should play something like this, that happens rarely and has somewhat unknown impact, especially during the regular season. but if it was the NT and i was making the sit/start decision, i would probably use 80% as a tie-breaker only and 60% it would still have to be pretty close.

also, don't rely on your average minutes under stats if you have minutes promised. Once he expects to play, the games he can play in will calculate into his average minutes. You might be showing average minutes of 15mpg, but if he misses 3 games he could have played in, count those 0 minutes per game into your average and you might actually be closer to 12 or 13 mpg.
