The Hangover progressive league will be entering its 53st (!) season soon, and we need to recruit two new owners of brand new expansion teams for our 1998 season as we increase to 30 teams. The open expansion franchises will be Arizona and Tampa Bay.

It a pretty standard progressive league, with a weighted lottery of the bottom 12 teams to determine the first 5 spots of the draft, and then reverse order of previous season record after that. Must win 50 games to get your full slate of lottery balls, and you lose one ball for each win below 50. So for example, if you have the worst overall record and win only 45, you would have 7 lottery balls instead of 12. (You would have to win 39 games to get at least one lottery ball).

For the expansion draft, the existing 28 teams will protect 12 players, and the expansion teams will draft a roster of 15 players each (each existing team loses 1 and the two teams finishing with the best two 1997 records will lose two). The expansion teams will then participate in the rookie draft, with their draft spots immediately before the .500 teams from 1997.
It will be a building project, but those are the best.

The final regular season day of the 1997 Hangover season will be July 15th, we hope to start the expansion draft that day. Please post or sitemail me if interested, we'd love to have you aboard!

Been away a few years and looking to get back into a few progressive leagues in MLB or NBA sim. I’m interested in joining but what’s holding me back is it’s already almost year 2000 and the expansions do not get any lottery balls with the top 336 players in the league already not available to us.

I feel you, kacyon. Unfortunately I think our 1993 expansion teams would rightly be upset if we gave 1998 expansion teams more favorable draft spots.

You can look at it this way, though: you would use the expansion draft and the 1998 rookie draft to establish a team that can consistently make 50 wins over several seasons and get your full of lottery balls for the future drafts, which would give you more freedom to truly build for the future in those drafts. One of the mistakes rebuilding teams make in this league is to focus on "bad now/good future" players without ensuring they have a team that can get 50 wins first and then they pay for it the next draft. Using the first draft right can put you a step ahead. There's some interesting strategy in this league.

And if it helps, I don't think this league will hit the present until the early 2030's, so there's plenty of time to build and enjoy a dominant team.

That makes sense I didn’t realize there was expansion teams that close away with the same rules. Kinda scary to think about coming in as an expansion at the start of the PED years. I will give it a go and go with Tampa Bay. Kinda gonna be a relearning process but I’ll stick it out for as long as I can and then maybe join other leagues as well. Is there an available player list yet?
