I would put the pick on the trading block, see if you get a Herschel Walker return...
In 1989, at the peak of Walker's NFL career, the Cowboys sent Herschel Walker to the Vikings for five players and six draft picks.
The players were LB Jesse Solomon, DB Isiac Holt, RB Darrin Nelson, LB David Howard, and DE Alex Stewart.
The picks turned into players such as Emmitt Smith, Russell Maryland, Kevin Smith, and Darren Woodson.
Emmitt Smith is one of the greatest, if not the best running back in NFL history. He is the all-time leading rusher with 18,355 yards. His 175 total touchdowns rank him second all-time behind Jerry Rice (207.)
That was the worst trade in history. Vikings GM Mike Lynn said, “if we don’t win the Super Bowl, it’s a bad trade.” Vikings brass didn’t mention the conditional picks to the fans in Minnesota when announcing the trade. That news came out much later, and then Lynn made another agreement with the Cowboys where they could keep the traded players and still have many of the conditional picks. Somehow Lynn then gets named commissioner of the World League of American Football. He resigns in less than a year. Meanwhile, the 1990 Vikings went 6-10 and finished DFL in their division. The only take away Viking fans got out of that trade was listening to Herschel refer to himself in the third person.
ESPN later joked that free agency took away the greatest shortcut to building a dynasty, fleecing the Vikings.
