How do you determine "range factor" and what role does it play?

Im sure there is a more nuanced answer, but I think it is simply defensive touches. So, 1b and C will have the highest because of ground outs and strikeouts. Then SS, 2b and 3b in that order, then CF, LF and RF in that order.

Formula is ((Putouts + Assists)/innings)*9. In other words how many putouts and assists per 9 defensive innings at a given position. Kind of a random and clumsy stat, but in a simulation might reflect a bit more of the engine.

It's not a predictive stat IMO, instead it's the result of all the defensive inputs of your team. IMO it's only indicative of a problem if you have a player with an abnormally low RF for his position.

Thanks for the information.

Range factor is basically useless in this game. It is not related to the range defensive rating at all. The GB/FB rating of your pitchers has a bigger influence on a players range factor than his range rating does.

Seeing a pitcher's DER at the end of a season has been fun, though not exactly useful.
