Which scouting has the best shot? Topic

GM A has a scouting budget of 20/0 (college/HS) and sees roughly 500 players
GM B has a scouting budget of 0/20 and does not see 500 players
GM C has a scouting budget of 20/20 and sees 500 players

Which GM actually sees the most talent in the draft? I would at first assume GM C, but in order to accommodate the 20/20, does it take out actual talent from college to put in the full High School? Or is it randomized?

............ I never thought about that. I've never done 20/20 because I determined it to be a waste of money but it is an interesting question.

I recently went 20/20 and there were a few top prospects I did not see.

The 500-player limit with 20/20 is just the board limit, not the number of players you scouted if that makes sense. If you go to GM -> Player Development -> Amateur Draft Results, you can see where your picks are ranked on your board. I usually have a few guys in the 500s/600s/700s with 20/20, and I see projections for them. It's only guys drafted in the late 700's/800's that start to have the ??? (ie. unscouted). So I wouldn't think they'd take away from each other. I think in general, 20 scouting will miss on a few guys whether it's HS, College, or both.

Right, and that is the question.

If 20 college gives you 500 ranked players, and 20/20 gives you 500 ranked players. How are the scouted high school players integrated into your seen ranked list? I have 20/0 (C/HS) and I didn't see 2 college players drafted in the top 25, and my last pick in the draft was ranked 539 and had scout info. even though I couldn't rank him.

If that's what happened to me with 20/0, would it get worse for missed college players with 20/20?

I have gone 20/20 a couple of times, My preference is always to have equal amt in scouting in both HS and Col so that I can properly compare apples to apples. Though I do get the theory behind 20/0 as well. My finding through two season of 20/20 in one of my league is that you tend to miss more prospects the deeper the draft pool is. So in "good years" where there is a lot of talent on the board you might miss out on 3-5 of the top 30 players taken on the draft (mind you this is also dependent on how good your league drafts, because there are some guys taken early that you would not necessarily take in that spot). So for one season which was fairly top heavy as far as draft talent, I missed out on the 24th overall guy taken which turned into this guy Player Profile: Jack Bailey - Hardball Dynasty Baseball | WhatIfSports.

The second year of 20/20 I think the draft pool was much better (or the league as a whole drafted better), I missed out on 5th, 7th and 17th overall picks. Which turned out to be these guys:

I've had 20/20 before, and missed prospects drafted in the top 10. It's a complete crapshoot as far as I'm concerned.

Another low key benefit to 20/20 is that if you are able to record projected ratings, you can later reference them in later seasons when considering trades etc…
