Groundball Pitchers Topic

I'm new. I'm sure this has been asked and answered but the search function isn't working well for me. Are there groundball, flyball, and neutral pitchers? Is it possible to find, say, a groundball pitcher using HR/9 and pitcher range factor? Is there any other way they can be identified?

Seems like this distinction would be important when deciding which positions to pay more for defense.

Deadball pitchers will cause more ground balls, as they have a built in squelch of XBH. Any pitcher with a low HR/9 will be what works for you, as does a negative HR park. SS and 2B will get the most chances, and 3B will get plenty of opportunities as well. Good fielding pitchers help themselves too. The TWISL test league stats can be found, they flesh out the cost and effectiveness of deadball vs modern pitchers. The total chances of fielders will increase, causing error rates to rise.

Read the simleague forums, there's still helpful information to explain this.

Thank you! That's interesting. So just like IRL, the deadball pitchers give up more errors as well? I will look at that thread. It doesn't naturally follow to me that more balls in play would increase error rates, but if that is how the sim handles the difference in the eras it does make sense. I wonder if the change in error rates is additive or a multiple. If it is a multiple it would make sense to draft players with low error rates to combine with deadball pitchers.

fielders will have a lower fielding percentage behind pitchers who pitched in an era where there were a lot of errors, on top of there being more balls in play. fielding percentage also declines when the hitter is from an era with lots of errors. its a bit strange but remember this is not real baseball, when players from wildly different eras meet then something has to give.

and yes, low error rate fielders and deadball pitchers are a good match.

Thanks. Yeah, I roughly understand why it would do that to try and replicate real performance as well as possible. Good info!
